Public Service
Jason Hanley is a U.S. Navy veteran, scientist, and longtime public servant with more than twenty-five years of federal and community service devoted to Hawaiʻi’s environment and people.
Beginning his federal career in 1999, Hanley served with the Navy Marine Mammal Program and as a contractor for SAIC and SPAWAR, contributing to national defense research and environmental compliance initiatives. In 2004 he joined the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, where for nearly two decades he managed endangered-species recovery, habitat restoration, and climate-adaptation projects across the Pacific Islands.
His work advanced protection of native Hawaiian birds, monk seals, sea turtles, and coral-reef ecosystems, while coordinating partnerships with local communities, the State of Hawaiʻi, and Native Hawaiian organizations. Hanley led interdisciplinary teams developing field-survey protocols, invasive-species mitigation plans, and coastal-resilience strategies that continue to guide federal conservation programs today.
Jason Hanley is now running for Governor of Hawaiʻi in 2026 to bridge science-based policy and local values — strengthening food systems, expanding housing access, and protecting Hawaiʻi’s natural and cultural resources for future generations.
